Gurugram, Aug 2 (PTI) Gurugram Forest Department employees laid siege to the Civil Lines residence of Haryana Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh on Sunday, demanding the regularisation of contractual workers and the implementation of “equal pay for equal work.” Additionally, the employee representatives demanded the timely disbursement of salaries and the provision of social security benefits to contractual and temporary staff.

Their demands also included the removal of corrupt employees from the department and a minimum wage of Rs 26,000. Identity cards should be issued to all employees. A sum of Rs 10 lakh should be paid upon retirement. All employees who have won their court cases should be reinstated and all former employees should be recalled with immediate effect.

As a precautionary measure, the police erected heavy barricades on the roads leading to Singh’s residence. Employees, however, staged a sit-in protest close to his residence and raised slogans.

Additional police forces have been summoned to the scene. PTI COR SHS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
