Ahmedabad, Oct 26 (PTI) The Gujarat BJP on Monday staged a protest in Gandhinagar against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his controversial “baap” remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sought an apology from him.

BJP workers took out a rally from ‘Gh’ Circle towards the Congress office in Sector 22, but police stopped them midway.

BJP MLA Alpesh Thakor, who participated in the protest, said, “An 85-year-old veteran leader making such remarks ought to apologise. It is unbecoming of him. The aggressive and disrespectful tone Kharge uses reflects his true upbringing. The remarks amount to an insult to all citizens of the country, including people of Gujarat.”

BJP state vice-president Bharat Pandya said the Congress has crossed every limit, while MP Hasmukh Patel alleged the opposition party had lost its composure after failing to win public support.

“Dreaming of attaining power but failing to secure it, and unable to win the public’s trust, the Congress has completely lost its composure. The people of the nation are deeply outraged and are demanding that Kharge apologise,” Patel said.

Meanwhile, Congress workers also gathered at their party office and distributed ‘Melody’ chocolates to register their protest against the BJP’s agitation. PTI PJT BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
