Ahmedabad, Jun 4 (PTI) The ruling BJP on Thursday announced four candidates from Gujarat for the coming Rajya Sabha elections, with the party set to comfortably win all the seats due to its strength in the state Assembly.

The party fielded Rajubhai Shukla, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, Mansinh Parmar and Jitendra Kanzariya for the Upper House polls from the state.

Rajubhai Shukla (62) from Mehsana district is currently the in-charge of the BJP’s Surendranagar district unit. He had earlier served as president of Kadi municipality and general secretary of the Mehsana district BJP.

Rathwa (39), a tribal leader, currently serves as general secretary of the BJP’s Chhotaudepur district unit. He had earlier served as vice president of the ruling party’s youth wing.

Mansinh Parmar (45), an OBC leader from Gir Somnath district, currently serves as state president of the OBC Morcha.

Jitendra Kanzariya (39), also an OBC, hails from Devbhumi Dwarka district and had earlier served as a member of district panchayat’s executive committee.

The elections have been necessitated as the six-year terms of Rajya Sabha members Rambhai Mokariya, Narhari Amin, Shaktisinh Gohil and Ramilaben Bara are ending on June 21.

Gohil is the lone Congress member from Gujarat in the Upper House, while the remaining three are from the BJP.

With the BJP having 161 MLAs in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, the party is expected to sweep all four seats.

As per the Election Commission, if multiple candidates file nominations for a single seat, voting will take place on June 18, and counting will take place the same day. PTI PJT PD KRK
