New Delhi: A hijab-wearing woman was confronted allegedly by a group of Muslim men in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore late Thursday night for riding pillion on a two-wheeler driven by a Hindu man. “Don’t down Islam. No one will allow you to do that. You understand properly,” a man part of the group is seen telling the woman in a purported video of the incident.

Madhya Pradesh police have filed a case under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder) and arrested seven accused in connection with the incident. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan too has asked the Police Commissioner to take strict action in this regard.

Speaking to the media, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Raghuvanshi said when “some men saw that the woman was from the Muslim community and the man was from the Hindu community, they followed the duo when they left a hotel, stopped them and started questioning the woman about why she was roaming with him”.

“The woman replied saying that she was out with the man with permission from her parents. They also hit the man and attacked those who tried to save him with knives. The one who attacked with a knife has also been arrested,” said Additional DCP Raghuvanshi.

The Hindu man in the purported video, identified as Bhavesh Sunere, is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital, according to Raghuvanshi.

In the purported video, the duo on a two-wheeler can be seen being questioned by a group of men about where they were headed and what their names were.

Purported video of the incident (By special arrangement)

The man is seen being manhandled when one of the men in the group recording the confrontation is heard warning the rest not to assault him.

“He isn’t at fault. We need to talk to her,” says the man. “Isn’t an online order available that you are going out to eat at night,” he is seen telling the woman in the video.

The woman argues with the men by saying that she had the permission of her parents.

“You will go with someone who isn’t a Muslim, isn’t from the community and go and eat outside? You won’t order food online. You are wearing the hijab but not following the law. I am telling you about Islam, not the right person to tell you the law. I am the person who can tell you about Islam,” a man part of the group tells her, as seen in the purported video.
