Barwani (MP), Jul 16 (PTI) Personnel from several Madhya Pradesh government departments and volunteers on Thursday trekked through the rugged Satpura hills, dense forests and narrow trails in Barwani district as part of ‘Mission Green Commando’ to reach 2,500 tribal households in remote areas where access to healthcare remains difficult, officials said.

The special outreach drive was conducted in Bokrata area of Pati development block, they added.

The ‘green commandos’ comprised personnel from the health, revenue and panchayati raj departments, frontline health workers and local volunteers tasked with delivering healthcare services to tribal families living in inaccessible areas, an official said.

“Two hundred teams were deployed, covering around 2,500 households in nine gram panchayats. They carried out immunisation of children, antenatal check-ups and registration of pregnant women, screened people for sickle cell anaemia and identified malnourished children,” Barwani Collector Jayati Singh told PTI.

Officials said buses, cars and motorcycles were used to reach hilly and forested areas, with teams continuing on foot carrying medicines, vaccination supplies and diagnostic equipment to reach remote settlements when motorable roads ended.

The tribal-dominated Bokrata region is known for its difficult terrain, and several hamlets can only be reached after travelling long distances by vehicle and then trekking several kilometres through forests and hilly paths, the officials pointed out. PTI HWP LAL BNM
