Government revamps fair price shops in major cities

Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Jaipur, and Ahmedabad to Benefit from Upgraded FPSs.

New Delhi: The government is taking various steps to improve the viability of food security institutions of the country. Under this, 60 fair price shops (FPS) in four cities including Hyderabad, Ghaziabad, Jaipur and Ahmedabad are to be revamped, a PIB press release stated.

The central government is providing operational support to these FPSs through the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). This support includes working capital and B2B online wholesale aggregators for the sale of non-PDS items mainly nutritional items.

As per information, the government has taken various steps to improve the viability of food security institutions of the country. To assist FPS owners in operating their businesses effectively, the government explores the proposal of conducting capacity-building programs or short-term skill development courses through the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
