Kochi, Jul 24 (PTI) Customs arrested a passenger after seizing gold worth around Rs two crore at Kochi airport, officials said on Friday.
Officials said that the passenger, Jamshid Edekkandi Poyil (36), a native of Kozhikode, arrived by IndiGo flight from Abu Dhabi on July 23 and was intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit of Kochi Customs.
During examination, customs recovered gold paste concealed inside a specially stitched brief worn by the passenger, they said.
Chemical analysis by the Customs laboratory led to the extraction of 1,246.23 grams of 24-carat gold from the paste.
Officials also seized two 24-carat gold chains weighing 100.21 grams from his possession, Customs said.
The total quantity of seized gold was valued at Rs 1.97 crore.
