Panaji, Jun 11 (PTI) Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Thursday announced the expansion of state-run home healthcare services across the state, saying the initiative is aimed at ensuring doorstep medical care for patients suffering from serious ailments such as cancer and strokes.
Addressing reporters in Margao during a programme organised to mark 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in office, Rane said the health department has already introduced a home care facility that currently caters to around 800 patients.
The service includes nurses, physiotherapists, speech therapists and other healthcare professionals, he said.
“As Prime Minister Narendra Modi completes 12 years in office, we are bringing home care to the doorstep for people who require it the most, especially those suffering from cancer, strokes and other serious conditions,” the minister said.
Rane said the dedicated home care team would be expanded over the next three months to extend the facility to more beneficiaries across Goa.
The minister also announced plans to strengthen healthcare infrastructure at the South Goa District Hospital in Margao.
He said a preliminary review of the hospital has been conducted, and steps are being taken to enhance specialist services.
“Two posts for senior cardiologists have been advertised, and the doctors will be posted at the Margao facility. An MRI facility will also be inaugurated soon,” Rane said.
He added that orthopaedic, neurology and cardiology services would be further strengthened at the district hospital.
The government remains committed to ensuring access to healthcare for all citizens, he said.
“Healthcare for all is our commitment on the occasion of Prime Minister Modi completing 12 years in office,” he said.
Highlighting another healthcare initiative, the minister said around 1,000 patients visit the Day Care Centre at Goa Medical College and Hospital every month.
“The day care model has been successful and will now be expanded across the state,” he said.
Rane said the cathlab facility at the South Goa District Hospital is expected to become operational within six months, while other superspeciality facilities would also be introduced in a phased manner. PTI RPS NR
