Panaji, Sep 9 (PTI) The Goa government has extended its beach shack policy by one year, with the Tourism Department set to begin issuing licences to shack operators from September 10, officials said on Wednesday.
The early renewal process is aimed at ensuring that beach shacks are operational well ahead of the tourist season, Tourism Minister Rohan A Khaunte said.
The fee structure for beach shacks has been retained without any increase, taking into account the difficulties faced by operators during the previous season amid global uncertainty and challenging business conditions, he said.
The decision was aimed at providing stability to shack operators while ensuring tourists continue to have access to one of Goa’s most recognisable experiences, Khaunte said.
Tourism Director Kedar Naik said the department had prioritised an earlier licensing cycle so that operators do not lose time.
“The issuance process starting September 10 gives operators the opportunity to get their establishments ready well in advance,” Naik said.
He added that the early start would also allow shack operators to cater to tourists during the Ganesh Chaturthi weekend.
The Goa Registration of Tourist Trade (Amendment) Act, 2026 makes registration with the Tourism Department mandatory for all private shacks operating in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) areas. PTI RPS KRK
