Dumka, Oct 10 (PTI) A girl has been found dead near her house in Jharkhand’s Dumka, with police suspecting that she was raped and murdered.

The body of the Class 9 student was recovered from bushes about 500 metres from her house on Friday night, Kathikund police station in-charge Balram Singh said.

According to the victim’s parents, she had returned home from school around 3 pm, and her father asked her to untie the cow in the field after she had her lunch.

She, however, did not return home, prompting her family to start searching for her. During the search, they found her body in the field.

“The body has been sent for post-mortem. Police have launched a detailed investigation,” the police officer said. PTI COR RPS NSD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
