New Delhi: Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi is the mastermind behind the murder of Punjabi singer and Congress politician Sidhu Singh Moose Wala, the Delhi Police said Wednesday.

Special Commissioner of Police H.G.S Dhaliwal said at least five people were involved in the killing. He said one Siddhesh Hiraman Kamble alias Mahakaal, who had been arrested, was a close associate of one of the shooters “but not involved in the actual shooting”. “The real killers will be arrested soon,” Dhaliwal said.

Hiraman is in custody of the Maharashtra Police at the moment, the senior officer said.

Bishnoi had shed responsibility in the murder of Moose Wala and told the police that the singer was killed to avenge the murder of Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera last year.

Originally from Dutaranwali, a village in Punjab’s Fazilka district, Bishnoi has been in Delhi’s Tihar jail since 2021. But that hasn’t stopped him from leading a life of crime.

ThePrint had earlier reported that Bishnoi was the leader of a 700-member gang that has allegedly been involved in several murders and extortion cases in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government said Wednesday that Canada-based outlaw Goldy Brar had claimed responsibility for the singer’s murder “on behalf of Lawrence Bishnoi”. It said the state police “would leave no stone unturned” for the gangster’s extradition.

The Punjab Police also sent a request for a red-corner notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation for Brar, almost 10 days before Moose Wala’s murder on 29 May.

A red-corner notice allows the arrest and detention of a fugitive abroad.

Brar or Satinderjit Singh of Sri Muktar Sahib flew to Canada on a student visa in 2017 and actively helped Bishnoi from abroad, the police said.
