G20 Summit: President Murmu, PM Modi host world leaders for special dinner at Bharat Mandapam

New Delhi: World leaders have descended on Delhi this weekend to attend the final G20 Summit under India’s presidency.

PM Narendra Modi is expected to hold over 15 bilateral meetings with leaders, having already met US President Joe Biden Friday evening.

9:30pm: Committing to strengthening the global health architecture, the New Delhi Declaration of G20 countries said Saturday that member states would focus on improving essential health services and systems to better than pre-pandemic levels, ideally within the next two to three years. 7:50pm: Amid the G20 Summit in New Delhi, India and the US have reached an agreement to address their last remaining trade dispute lodged with the World Trade Organisation (WTO). 7:20pm: India, the US, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, European Union (EU), Italy, France, and Germany joined forces on Saturday to inaugurate an ambitious infrastructure initiative known as the ‘India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor.’ This initiative aims to redefine the trade route between the Gulf, Europe, and South Asia, establishing rail and sea connections to link these regions. 7:00pm: During a bilateral meeting held a day ahead of the G20 summit, Prime Minister Modi and US President Joe Biden discussed the India-U.S. Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X). According to a joint statement issued on Friday, the two leaders “commended the India-U.S. Defence Acceleration Ecosystem (INDUS-X) team for establishing a robust collaboration agenda to harness the innovative work of the US and Indian defense sectors to address shared security challenges.” Read the full report here.

6:00pm: India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration, that runs into 83 paragraphs, was adopted with “absolutely no dissent, no footnotes, no chair summaries”. The declaration, he emphasised symbolized “unparalleled global consensus”.

3:14pm: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G20 Summit Saturday.

He added, “With the sense of ‘sabka saath’, India had proposed that the African Union be granted permanent membership of G20. I believe that all of us agree to this proposal.”
