Chandigarh, May 16 (PTI) The Federation of Self Financing Technical Institutions (FSFTI) and Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) on Saturday urged regulatory bodies to extend the admission deadline for technical, medical and allied professional courses from August 15 to October 30 due to delays in entrance exams and counselling.

Dr Anshu Kataria, President of FSFTI and PUCA, said representations had been submitted to bodies, including the UGC and NMC, seeking immediate intervention.

Kataria said the current admission cut-off date for various professional courses is August 15, but the admission schedule has been affected due to delays and rescheduling of entrance examinations and counselling processes.

He said the NEET examination scheduled on June 21 would delay results, counselling, seat allotments and the start of academic sessions for medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, allied healthcare, law and other professional courses.

Kataria said extending the admission deadline till October 30 would help complete the entrance exams, counselling and seat allotment processes smoothly without pressure on students and institutions.

He also referred to the Supreme Court judgement in the Parshvanath Charitable Trust versus AICTE case, which fixed uniform timelines for approvals, counselling, admissions and commencement of classes for AICTE-regulated institutions.

According to AISHE 2021-22 data, India has over 45,000 colleges and around 4.33 crore students enrolled in higher education institutions, he added. PTI VSD APL APL
