Agra (UP), May 12 (PTI) Four youths, including two girls, drowned in the Yamuna river while bathing on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident took place around 9 am in the Kamla Nagar police station area when a group of relatives had gone to the river for bathing.
Additional District Magistrate Shubhangi Shukla identified the deceased as Kanha (22), Mehak (19), Riya (17) and Vicky (11).
After receiving information, police and local divers were pressed into service for a rescue operation, officials said.
Kanha, Mehak and Riya were first pulled out of the river and taken to a medical college, where doctors declared them dead, they said.
Vicky’s body was recovered after a six-hour rescue operation, officials added.
Rakesh, father of Vicky, said the family was celebrating the birthday of a girl named Nitya on Monday, and several relatives had gathered for the occasion.
He said Kanha and Mehak had come from Hathras district, while Riya had arrived from Mathura.
