Dehradun, Sep 2 (PTI) Four unaccredited madrasas in Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district have been sealed, officials said on Wednesday.
This action was taken against institutions operating without the necessary recognition and documents needed under the new system implemented by the State Minority Education Authority in Uttarakhand.
They stated that, as part of this process, four madrasas in the Bazpur area of the district have been sealed.
Officials reported that the operators of the madrasas concerned failed to produce the required documents during inspections. Subsequently, these facilities were sealed by a police team led by Bazpur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Richa Singh and Kotwali Inspector Naresh Chauhan.
The madrasas sealed by the administration include Madrasa Jamia Hanafia Razaut Uloom and Madrasa Jamia Fatima in Bazpur; Madrasa Gulshan-e-Islam in Kanora; and Madrasa Moinul Uloom, located in the Gandhinagar neighbourhood of Kelakheda-Bazpur.
The SDM stated that inspections and inquiries regarding such madrasas are being conducted in the area under the directives of the district magistrate.
She added that action would be taken against institutions that do not possess the prescribed recognition or necessary documents.
Meanwhile, some madrasa operators have approached the Uttarakhand High Court to challenge the new system and the provisions regarding recognition.
The petitioners argued before the court that the mandatory requirement for recognition from the Minority Education Authority and the Education Board could create operational difficulties for many madrasas.
During the preliminary hearing, the High Court sought a response from the state government regarding the matter. The next hearing is scheduled for September 15.
Udham Singh Nagar District Magistrate Nitin Bhadauria stated that the inspection drive for madrasas in the district is ongoing, and action will be taken against institutions that have not obtained recognition from the designated authority or failed to comply with the necessary standards and regulations.
Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, stated that the core spirit of the new system is to integrate children into mainstream education while keeping them connected to their religious and cultural identities.
