Leh, Oct 26 (PTI) Four trekkers who had been reported missing were successfully located and rescued in a joint operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along the high-altitude Shang-Math trekking trail here, police said on Monday.

On the night of October 23-24, the SDRF received information from the Police Control Room regarding four trekkers reported missing along the route, the police said in a statement.

The police said a Quick Response Team was immediately dispatched at 12:30 am and thereafter, a joint search and rescue operation was launched by the teams of SDRF and the NDRF, which continued throughout the night.

During the course of the operation, it was ascertained that the trekkers inadvertently took an alternative route and, as a result, strayed from the designated trekking trail.

Owing to the dedicated and well-coordinated efforts of both teams, all four trekkers were located and rescued on October 24, the police said.

The statement said the rescued trekkers were subsequently sent for medical examination and necessary assistance. PTI TAS MNK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
