Nashik, Jul 14 (PTI) Four people were killed and one was seriously injured in a road accident in Nashik district of Maharashtra on Tuesday evening, police said.

The accident involving two trucks and a Maruti Eeco car registered in Gujarat took place at Savala Ghat near the Peth-Dindori border on Nashik-Peth Road, they said.

According to police, the ill-fated car was travelling towards Peth when a truck coming from behind hit it. The car was on its way to Silvassa from Saptashringi Garh on Nashik-Peth Road when the accident took place at around 4.30 pm.

The crash was so powerful that three passengers of the car lost their lives on the spot, while two others were injured. One of the injured later succumbed at a hospital, while another car occupant is in critical condition and receiving treatment at the medical facility, they said.

The deceased were yet to be identified.

As per preliminary reports, one of the trucks involved in the crash suffered a technical snag and the driver lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the truck hit the car with great force and the car then rammed into another truck which was travelling in front of it, police said.

The crash was so intense that the ill-fated car was completely mangled, they added.

A case was registered with the Peth police station and further investigations were on. PTI COR RSY
