Perambalur (TN), Sept 24 (PTI) Four people, including a woman, were killed and three others sustained severe injuries when their rented car rear-ended a moving private omnibus on the Tiruchirappalli-Chennai National Highway here early on Thursday, police said.
The omnibus, carrying 34 passengers, was en route to Chennai from Thoothukudi. A rented car carrying seven passengers, including two women, was travelling behind the bus on the same route from Ramanathapuram district towards Chennai.
According to police, when the vehicles reached a stretch opposite a fuel station between the 3-Road and 4-Road junctions near Perambalur, the car crashed into the bus ahead.
Highway rescue personnel and Perambalur police rushed to the scene, extricated the victims from the mangled car, and sent the injured to government hospitals in Perambalur and Tiruchirappalli.
The three injured passengers are currently undergoing treatment.
Police stated that the crash took place when the car driver apparently dozed off at the wheel.
A case has been registered and investigation is underway. PTI JR ROH
