Sultanpur (UP), May 3 (PTI) Four children were injured after a firecracker exploded during celebrations over the birth of a child in Sultanpur district, police said on Sunday.

The incident prompted police to conduct a raid and seize illegal explosive material from a trader in the nearby market, they said.

A family was celebrating the recent birth of a child in Narayanpur village under the Kotwali Nagar police station area by bursting firecrackers.

According to police sources, one of the crackers fell on gravel and exploded, causing debris to fly and hit four children standing nearby.

Circle Officer Saurabh Samant said the impact of the blast caused gravel pieces to scatter, injuring the children in their legs.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital. After primary treatment, two of the injured — Raghavendra Singh (10) from Payagipur and Mohammad Subhan (17) from Narayanpur — were referred to a government medical college.

The other two injured, Harsh (5) and Yash (10), both residents of Narayanpur, were discharged after treatment.

After the incident, police conducted a raid at a firecracker trader’s premises in Pratapganj market on the directions of SP Charu Nigam. A large quantity of illegal explosive material was seized, and further legal action is underway, officials said. PTI COR CDN PRK
