Thane, Sep 13 (PTI) Four persons were booked in Bhiwandi in Thane district for allegedly dumping hazardous chemical waste into a ‘nullah’ (stream) and endangering public health, a police official said on Sunday.
The dumping was carried out on September 10 afternoon near Akai Turf in Mavji Compound, after which a case was registered at Narpoli police station on the complaint of a constable of the Thane City Crime Branch Central Crime Unit.
“The accused conspired to discharge a pungent, light-pink chemical liquid from a tanker into the local nullah using a diesel engine pump. To evade municipal regulations and mislead authorities, they allegedly generated a forged tax invoice claiming the vehicle was transporting water,” he said.
The illegal discharge was executed without any permissions from the local municipal corporation, severely contaminating the nearby water source and creating a serious health risk for local residents, the official said.
Those named in the FIR are tanker driver Manoj Kumar Vidyanand Ram, directors of Palghar-based firm Dodhia Chemtex Pvt. Ltd., Siddh Narayan Kate, and Mohammad Imtiyaz.
They have been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions for cheating, polluting a public water source, and rendering the atmosphere noxious to health, he said. PTI COR BNM
