Panaji, Jun 22 (PTI) Goa crime branch busted an alleged online cricket betting racket operating during a live match of the Sri Lanka Tri-Nation A Series and arrested four persons from a villa in Mapusa town, police said on Monday.
Acting on specific information received on June 21 that illegal online betting was being conducted on the live cricket match between India-A and Sri Lanka-A, a crime branch team raided a villa at Ekta Nagar in Mapusa, said Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Jivba Dalvi.
Police found four individuals involved in online betting activities, he said, adding that two laptops, eight mobile phones, a router, and other electronic articles collectively valued at around Rs 2 lakh were seized.
The accused have been identified as Umashankar Joshi (42), Anvesh Soni (30), and Faijan Shaikh (22), originally from Madhya Pradesh, and Rahul Khot (25) from Sirsa in Haryana.
Dalvi said an offence has been registered against the accused under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976, and Section 66C of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
