Thane, Jul 23 (PTI) A sessions court here on Thursday granted interim protection from arrest to former MP and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vinayak Raut, his son Gitesh, and three other family members till July 28 in connection with a domestic violence and anti-black magic case registered against them.
The case stems from a complaint lodged at Kapurbawdi police station in Thane by Girija Raut, the daughter-in-law of Vinayak Raut and wife of Gitesh Raut.
In her complaint, Girija alleged harassment and cruelty, severe physical and mental harassment, marital misconduct, and torture by her husband and in-laws. She also alleged forcible involvement in occult rituals and violations under the Maharashtra Anti-Black Magic Act.
Additional Sessions Judge S P Agarwal directed the Kapurbawdi police not to arrest applicant Gitesh Vinayak Raut, former Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Vinayak Bhaurao Raut, Shamal Vinayak Raut, Surekha Rajesh Sarphare, and Rajesh Narayan Sarfare till the next date of hearing on July 28.
While hearing their pre-arrest bail application, the court noted that the advocate for the intervener sought time to file a written reply and argue the matter.
Although counsel for the accused was ready to present arguments and the investigating agency had submitted its reply, the court deemed it appropriate to grant interim relief to all applicants until the next hearing given the circumstances.
Following Girija’s complaint, an FIR was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Anti-Black Magic Act against seven individuals, including the Raut family members and two occult practitioners (babas).
