Palakkad (Keralam), Oct 13 (PTI) Five people have been taken into custody in connection with the suspected murder of an unidentified man whose body was found near Moolathara dam here two days ago, police said on Tuesday.

The deceased was suspected to be a beggar, and efforts were on to establish his identity, they said.

Locals found the man dead under suspicious circumstances on Sunday morning. A post-mortem examination at Thrissur Medical College Hospital revealed signs of murder, police said.

The incident is suspected to be a case of mob lynching, though this is yet to be confirmed, police sources said.

Based on circumstantial evidence, the Meenakshipuram police launched a detailed investigation and took five persons into custody. Their interrogation is under way, they added. PTI LGK ROH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
