Faridabad, Jul 4 (PTI) Five people, including a couple, were arrested here in connection with a marriage fraud case lodged by Rajkumar Panchal alias Bittu Bajrangi, a self-proclaimed cow vigilante who is also an accused in the 2023 Nuh communal violence.
The accused were identified as Danish Chaman (35), Mahvish Danish (27), Sachin (27), and Sanjeev (52), all residents of Aligarh, and Pradeep (34) from Bulandshahar.
Panchal, a resident of Sanjay Enclave in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, had approached the Saran police station in February, alleging that he was defrauded of Rs 40,000 under the pretext of arranging his marriage to a woman.
Panchal, in his complaint, alleged that he had approached an acquaintance, Avinash alias Bunty, for his help in finding a bride.
Bunty then allegedly contacted a matchmaker, Rani, who invited Panchal to Aligarh two to three times to meet prospective brides and also sent the photograph of a girl named Pooja, later identified as Mahvish Danish.
After Panchal liked her photo, Mahvish visited his home in Faridabad on September 5, 2025, posing as accused Pradeep’s sister, while introducing Sanjeev as her uncle, Sachin as the middleman, and Danish as her brother, police said.
The accused allegedly accepted Rs 11,000 from Panchal during a tika ceremony, and later took another 30,000 for wedding arrangements, and fixed the marriage ceremony for September 7 at a temple in Aligarh, police said. However, on the said date, no one showed up at the temple, police said.
The female accused, Mahvish Danish, has previously been jailed twice for similar fraud cases, while Pradeep has previously served time in Aligarh Jail and Dasna (Noida) Jail in connection with fraud cases, they added.
“We are questioning the accused and are conducting continuous raids to locate the mastermind, Rani. She will be arrested soon”, said the spokesperson of Faridabad police. PTI COR KSI KSI
