Thane, Jun 9 (PTI) A massive fire broke out at an open-air warehouse storing tyres near a police station in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Tuesday, officials said.
There were no reports of any casualties so far, they said.
The blaze was reported at 11.51 am at the godown located behind Shil Daighar police station in the Dahisar Mori area, Thane’s regional disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said.
Firefighters and disaster management personnel rushed to the spot after being alerted.
Given the intensity of the blaze and the thick smoke generated by burning rubber tyres, additional reinforcement was mobilised from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO).
Several fire tenders were currently working to contain the blaze.
Joint operations were underway to douse the fire, NMMC divisional fire officer Purushottam Jadhav said.
The cause of the blaze was yet to be ascertained, officials said. PTI COR GK
