Gurugram (Haryana), May 6 (PTI) A 40-year-old man was burnt alive after fire broke out due to a short circuit in a slum in Sector 53 here, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased, Robin Das from West Bengal, had been working as a labourer in Gurugram for some time, they said.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire, which broke out on Tuesday night, engulfed the entire slum in no time, leaving Das with no opportunity to escape. He was alone at the time of the incident, while his daughter and son-in-law were staying in a nearby slum, they said.

Police and the fire brigade reached the spot upon receiving information and brought the fire under control, preventing its spread to the surrounding slums.

However, by the time the fire was extinguished, Das had already died, a senior police officer said, adding that his body had been sent for a post-mortem. PTI COR MDO KSI KSI
