Mysuru (Karnataka), Oct 13 (PTI) A case has been registered against an unidentified person for allegedly sending an email threatening to disrupt the ongoing Mysuru Dasara 2026 celebrations, police said on Tuesday.

The email was received on October 10, following which the Mysuru City Police Commissioner directed officials to conduct a thorough inquiry and take appropriate action, they said.

According to police, the email was sent from the ID arjuns6699@proton.me under the pseudonym Mahantesh and allegedly contained a threat from the sender, who concealed or altered the identity.

The accused allegedly sent an email warning of “creating an atmosphere of fear and anxiety in the city during the ongoing Mysuru Dasara 2026 celebrations.”

A case was registered at the CEN Crime police station on October 10 under sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 351(3) (aggravated criminal intimidation), 351(4) (threats made anonymously or by concealing one’s identity) and 353(1)(b) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with other relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, police said.

Efforts are being made to trace the person who sent the email, they added.

The famous 11-day Dasara celebrations commenced here on October 11 amid religious fervour and traditional grandeur, with Koppal’s Gavimath pontiff Abhinava Gavisiddeshwara Mahaswamiji inaugurating the festivities.

Celebrated as ‘Nada Habba’ (state festival), the Dasara or ‘Sharan Navaratri’ festivities are expected to be a grand affair this year, depicting Karnataka’s rich culture and traditions, coupled with reminiscence of royal pomp and glory. PTI AMP ROH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
