Rajkot (Gujarat), Sep 24 (PTI) Three members of a family, including a father-son duo, drowned in a check dam in Gujarat’s Rajkot district soon after they immersed a Lord Ganesh idol there, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred around 7 pm on Wednesday, they said.
A family from Ranpur village visited a check dam near Jhiyana village in Rajkot district to immerse the Ganesh idol. After the immersion, two women and three male members of the family entered the check dam water to have a bath, inspector of Airport Police Station K P Taretiya said.
But as they entered deep water, they started fighting for their lives. While some people at the spot rescued the women, the three men could not be saved, he said.
The bodies of the three victims were later fished out by the fire department personnel, he said.
The three deceased were identified as Dhirubhai Chauhan (50), his son Nayan Chauhan (23) and their relative Narendra Chauhan (30), he added.
