Gumla, Jun 20 (PTI) A man allegedly killed his sleeping son with an axe, furious over frequent quarrels under the influence of liquor in Jharkhand’s Gumla district, police said on Saturday.

Raidih Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Sandeep Kumar Yadav, told PTI that Arun Lohra (66), a resident of Karida village under Sikoi panchayat, killed his sleeping son Ramesh Kerketta (46) with an axe in the early hours of Saturday.

According to the police, the accused father confessed to the crime, stating that his son had long been addicted to alcohol and drugs.

“Ramesh was unemployed and frequently quarrelled with, verbally abused, and assaulted his father in an inebriated condition. A dispute had taken place between the two on Friday night as well,” the police officer said.

Police questioning revealed that the elderly father had been distressed by his son’s behaviour for a long time.

Arun Lohra picked up an axe and struck him on the head. Ramesh died on the spot due to the severe injury.

“The body has been sent for post-mortem while the accused has been remanded to judicial custody,” the police added. PTI ANB RG
