New Delhi: Faridabad police Tuesday arrested two men for allegedly raping a 25-year-old woman in a moving Maruti Suzuki Eeco van near a forested area on the Faridabad–Gurugram highway. They then pushed her out of the vehicle, leaving her severely injured, a senior police officer said.

Citing the FIR, filed after the victim’s sister lodged a complaint, the officer said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when the woman was returning from a friend’s house in Faridabad’s Sector 23.

Police said she left the friend’s home at around 12:30am and, as she neared Metro Chowk, hailed vehicles to go home. The men in the Maruti Suzuki Eeco van offered her a lift.

However, after she boarded, the driver allegedly detoured towards Gurugram using the Faridabad–Gurugram highway. She was then allegedly raped near a forested stretch.

The victim was pushed out of the car about three hours later and sustained severe injuries, requiring 12 stitches. After she was pushed out of the car, the woman called her sister who took her to a hospital.

The police officer declined to share further details of the accused citing a pending test identification parade. It is known at this point that the two accused are Faridabad residents and that one of them hails from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Madhya Pradesh.

The FIR was registered at Kotwali police station under Sections 70(1) (rape by one or more persons), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The process of recording the victim’s statements before the investigating officer (IO) and the magistrate are pending.

The officer said the woman lives separately from her husband and mother, and that the FIR states she left home on the night of 29 December at about 8:30pm after an argument with her mother. She then went to a friend’s place before leaving at about 12:30am to return home.
