Imphal, Oct 13 (PTI) Family members of a 25-year-old woman staged a protest at RIMS here on Tuesday, alleging that she died after giving birth to a baby due to medical negligence by the hospital authorities, officials said.

Thokchom Ongbi Binaroi, who was admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal on Monday, died after giving birth to a baby.

Following her demise, relatives damaged chairs, flower pots and window panes of the hospital premises.

Her husband said, “Though the baby was delivered safely, my wife remained inside the operation theatre for an extended period.”

He claimed, “My wife was bleeding heavily after being brought out of the operation theatre and was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday morning.”

“Doctors later informed us that her condition could not be stabilised”, he said.

He alleged that there may have been lapses in medical care and demanded accountability from the doctors concerned.

RIMS authorities were not available to the media to comment on the incident. PTI COR RG

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
