Mumbai, Aug 7 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday pulled up officials over deplorable road conditions in Nashik, directing that agencies failing to repair potholes must face strict penalties and be barred from future government contracts.
Reviewing preparations for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, Fadnavis stressed that citizens want practical solutions rather than excuses, warning officials that he expects visible improvements within a month.
“Do not tell people the reasons. Give them solutions. Such a relaxed approach will not do,” he said, asking all departments to recognise and discharge their responsibilities.
The chief minister also directed officers to spend more time in the field, not remain confined to their chambers and to maintain greater interaction with the public.
With the Kumbh Mela approaching, Fadnavis asked officials to work with greater seriousness and ensure visible improvements in civic services and infrastructure.
He reprimanded officials over poor road conditions in the city, directing that agencies failing to repair potholes be penalised and barred from getting work if they failed to discharge their duties.
Despite substantial public expenditure on development works, public resentment indicated shortcomings in implementation and called for introspection by the administration, he said.
Fadnavis warned that he would convene another review meeting after a month and expected “qualitative improvement” in the functioning of all departments by then.
