Excise dept foils smuggling bid, seizes IMFL stock in Palghar district; one held

Palghar, Jun 20 (PTI) The Maharashtra excise department has seized a stock of Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth Rs 10 lakh and arrested a 28-year-old man in Palghar district for allegedly transporting liquor meant for sale only in the UTs of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, an official said on Saturday.

The action was carried out by a team of the State Excise Department near Dundalwadi bridge on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Dahanu taluka on June 19.

“Acting on specific information, our team intercepted a tempo near Dundalwadi bridge and conducted a search. During the inspection, we found a stock of IMFL that was labelled for sale only in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu,” he told PTI.

The accused has been arrested under the provisions of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, he said.

According to the excise department, the total value of the seizure, including the vehicle, stands at Rs 18 lakh. PTI COR NSK
