Kannur (Kerala), May 6 (PTI) Former CPI(M) leader T K Govindan on Wednesday visited the home of late CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and paid floral tribute at his bust.
Govindan was elected to the Kerala Assembly as a UDF MLA from the Left stronghold of Taliparamba.
The Assembly elections were held on April 9.
He was accompanied by his wife, K P Ramani, who is also a former CPI(M) leader.
Govindan was expelled from the CPI(M) for questioning the candidature of P K Shyamala, the wife of the party’s current state secretary M V Govindan, from the Taliparamba seat, a Left bastion.
Ramani was turned out from the party for supporting her husband’s candidature as an independent against Shyamala, whom he defeated with a margin of 12,551 votes.
Following his win, Govindan and Ramani reached Balakrishnan’s home here, which was termed as a personal visit by the late CPI(M) leader’s wife — S R Vinodini — and son Bineesh Kodiyeri.
Speaking to the media, Bineesh said that the couple called his mother and arrived suddenly.
“They had a bond with my father as they had worked together and therefore, they visited our home and then left. They came here for a personal visit. They and their family have a close relationship with us. There was nothing political about the visit,” he said.
Bineesh further said that their home was always accessible to anyone who wanted to pay respects to his father, as it was during his lifetime, and the doors of their house were never shut before any person.
Vinodini told reporters that people still love and respect Balakrishnan and when any such person arrived at their home, he or she will be welcomed.
“They will be welcome irrespective of party differences or leanings. They came here because they care for Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s family. I am not going to turn back someone just because they are not liked by others. Anyone is free to come to my home. I don’t care what others say,” she said.
She also said that she does not have to take into consideration what the CPI(M) is saying about T K Govindan and his wife. PTI HMP KH
