Longowal, Aug 20 (PTI) SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Thursday targeted the AAP government and appealed to the people of Punjab to end the “remote control rule” of the state from Delhi once and for all.

“Punjab is for Punjabis,” the former Union minister said, adding that bringing peace and communal harmony, removing gangster rule and ending the scourge of drugs would be the top-most priority of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) once it forms the government.

Referring to the recent attack on SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal in Nanded in Maharashtra, she said her husband would never be cowed down by the “cowards” who had attacked him twice.

Kaur was addressing a party conference held here to commemorate the 41st martyrdom anniversary of Sant Harchand Singh Longowal.

She also urged Punjabis to get rid of “divisive forces” that were looting the state and destroying the future of its youth.

Urging the people to consider why Sukhbir Badal was being attacked in ‘Gurughar’, she said that “it is clear this is being done by cowards who have become stooges of governments”.

She said SAD had always put peace and communal harmony, and development of the state first and this was not to the liking of its opponents who wanted to split the party by encouraging fringe elements.

Asserting that the murderous attack on the SAD president while he was in the precincts of a gurdwara was against the principles of Sikhism, she said, “Yes, as a wife and a mother, I did get scared for a moment, but today I can strongly look you in the eyes and assert we are all not scared and never will be.” She said it was this sentiment which had made SAD’s opponents jittery as they realised that Sukhbir Badal was in “chardikala” (in high spirits) and would continue to follow the footsteps of his father and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal by working for communal brotherhood and welfare of Punjabis.

On this occasion, SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia also slammed the AAP government, alleging that under the Bhagwant Mann government, drugs had not been eliminated, gangsterism had not ended, corruption had not stopped and the law and order situation had not improved.

He further alleged that neither government employees nor farmers had received adequate support. PTI CHS KSS KSS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
