Noida, Jun 12 (PTI) An 86-year-old man and his 83-year-old wife were rescued by fire department personnel as a fire broke out inside their flat in Noida, officials said.
Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar said the fire broke out on the fourth floor of Overseas Apartment in Sector 49 on Thursday night, following which the fire department and local police teams reached the spot.
He said the elderly couple was found trapped inside the locked flat, filled with smoke. Due to their advanced age, they were unable to move out on their own.
The cause of the fire was yet to be confirmed.
“The fire service team and police personnel used a hydraulic machine and other equipment to cut open the door and enter the flat. Despite the challenging conditions, the team safely evacuated both elderly residents,” Kumar said.
The couple was taken to a hospital for medical assistance, where their condition was found to be stable, he added.
The fire was completely brought under control, the chief fire officer said.
Local residents, one of whom had called the fire services to inform about the emergency, appreciated the department and police teams for the quick response and rescue operation. PTI KIS RUK RUK
