Thane, Aug 5 (PTI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has urged local leaders in Thane to remain grounded, sensitive to the concerns of common people, and environmentally conscious.
Addressing a training camp organised for Shiv Sena representatives of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) on Tuesday, Shinde appealed to them to be “For me, Chief Minister means Chief Servant,” Shinde told the corporators.
He instructed them to conduct daily ward inspections, prioritise sanitation, answer citizens’ calls, and maintain an active on-field presence during crises.
Shinde’s concern comes against the backdrop of KDMC corporator Ramesh Mhatre’s assault on a doctor and medical staff at a civic hospital, which caused widespread outrage, leading to his arrest and an intervention by the Bombay High Court.
He said Urban planning must balance development with the environment; tree cutting should be minimised with heavy compensatory planting.
Shinde said strict quality standards will be enforced, with zero tolerance for substandard contractors.
