New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Monday asked schools affiliated to it to complete their internal assessment and practicals by the end of June, in case they were unable to do so because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Class 12 exams for this year were cancelled on 1 June after a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Following that, the board was asked to develop a “well-defined” and “time-bound” criteria for an assessment plan.

The criteria would include calculating results based on internal assessment among others.

Sources, however, said schools had approached the board expressing difficulty in being able to calculate marks based on internal assessment as conducting practicals was a problem with many of them because of the pandemic.

“Schools with pending internal assessment and practicals should complete them through online mode and submit to the board by 28 June,” the circular released by the board Monday read.

The previous deadline for uploading the marks was 11 June.

The last extension

The Monday order gives schools an extension for conducting practicals. It also adds that no further extension will be given beyond the latest deadline.

The board circular further adds that in subjects where an external examiner has not been appointed, the school teacher of the subject concerned will conduct the assessment based on the instructions given by the board. Wherever an external examiner has been appointed by the board, the evaluation schedule will be fixed by the examiner and viva will be conducted through online mode.

Schools have been asked to strictly adhere to Covid protocols while conducting the assessments.

The board had on 4 June announced the constitution of a 12-member panel, which will come up with a “well-defined” criteria for calculation of results. The panel is expected to submit its report by 14 June, following which, the board will issue instructions to the schools.
