Pune, Sep 12 (PTI) Education will play a critical role in preparing young people to become responsible and active citizens who can contribute meaningfully to Pune’s future, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said on Saturday.
Speaking at the third Founder’s Day celebration of Wellington College International Pune, Ram said the city has the potential to emerge as one of the best cities in the country and its future would be shaped not only by infrastructure and technology but also by its people.
Speaking on “Building the City of Tomorrow — The Role of Education in Pune’s Future”, Ram described Pune as a leading educational and cultural hub and highlighted the depth of talent and expertise nurtured by the city.
“Pune is a vibrant city and an educational and cultural hub, not just for Maharashtra but for the entire country. Some of the leading experts across different fields come from this city, reflecting the depth of talent and knowledge that Pune has nurtured over the years,” he said.
He also said that the Pune Municipal Corporation was continuously working towards building Pune as a future city and stressed the importance of education in preparing the younger generation for this transformation.
Media educator Dr Triveni Goswami Mathur, who was the Guest of Honour, said that education must go beyond academic achievement and help nurture young people who are responsible, aware and socially conscious, while retaining a strong foundation in academic excellence.
James Dahl, Master of Wellington College UK, said education should not be confined to examinations and stressed the importance of developing confidence, character and curiosity among young people. PTI SPK KRK
