New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI) The Election Commission on Monday ordered the immediate suspension of six officers, noting lapses during a re-poll at two polling stations in the Agra Division Teachers’ Constituency of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.

The repoll was held on Monday following complaints of irregularities during voting last week.

The officers were found to have failed to ensure proper supervision and control at the polling stations.

An officer each was identified as being at fault at polling stations 21 and 26 in Saiyan and Fatehabad.

In its directive, the poll authority also directed disciplinary proceedings against five other polling officials and 16 police personnel, including head constables and constables.

The authorities have been asked to prepare draft chargesheets against the six suspended officers and submit them to the commission for approval (vetting) within 10 days.

The Uttar Pradesh chief electoral officer has also been directed to submit a compliance report. PTI NAB VN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
