EC announces special summary revision of electoral rolls in Sikkim

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Gangtok, Nov 5 (PTI) The Election Commission on Thursday announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Sikkim, allowing eligible citizens, including first-time voters, to enrol and verify their names.

The exercise aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included in the electoral rolls and that voter details remain accurate and updated, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said in a statement.

The integrated draft electoral rolls will be published on November 30, followed by a month-long period for filing claims and objections from that day to December 30.

The disposal of claims and objections will be completed by January 16, 2027, and the final electoral rolls will be published on January 21, the statement said.

The rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations will be completed by November 20, ahead of the publication of the draft rolls.

Citizens who have attained or will attain 18 years of age on January 1 next year will be eligible to apply for enrolment. Those whose names were deleted from the electoral rolls can also seek fresh registration through the revision process.

The CEO’s office said advance applications would also be accepted from citizens becoming eligible on the subsequent qualifying dates of April 1, July 1 and October 1, 2027.

Voters have been urged to check their particulars and submit applications for inclusion, correction or deletion, as required, through the prescribed forms.

Applications can also be filed online through the Voter Service Portal and ECINET, the statement said.

“The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim, appeals to all eligible citizens, particularly young and first-time voters, to actively participate in the revision process and ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls,” it added. PTI CORR NN
