New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) Delhi University will host a one-day national conference on “Science Meets Social Science: Mental Well-Being and Happiness” on September 10 to explore interdisciplinary approaches to happiness, mental well-being and human flourishing.

Organised by the Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council (RIEC), the conference will be held at the Convention Hall, Vice-Regal Lodge, the university said in a statement. The conference comes against the backdrop of rising stress, anxiety and academic and professional pressures, as well as growing concerns over mental health, emotional resilience, depression and suicide, particularly among young people, students and professionals.

It seeks to promote a broader understanding of happiness and mental well-being as essential components of a healthy, resilient and progressive society rather than merely individual concerns, the statement said.

Faculty members, university employees, research scholars and undergraduate and postgraduate students from various departments and colleges of the university, along with participants from other academic institutions, are expected to attend.

Academicians, researchers, experts and practitioners from diverse fields will deliberate on contemporary challenges related to mental well-being and explore ways to build emotional resilience, social connectedness and individual and collective happiness.

The conference will cover themes including the science of happiness and mental well-being, environment and happiness, mindfulness and mental resilience, music therapy and well-being, food and happiness, and social relationships, spirituality and well-being.

The discussions will examine biological, psychological, social, cultural, environmental and relational factors shaping human happiness and mental well-being, while encouraging evidence-based and holistic approaches to well-being.

Dinabandhu Sahoo, chairperson of the RIEC, is expected to be the convenor of the conference, while Neena Pandey, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, will be the co-convenor.

The initiative aims to strengthen interdisciplinary scholarship and encourage informed, inclusive and sustainable approaches to building a healthier and more resilient society, the statement said. PTI AHD SMV AHD SMV MDO MDO

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
