Mandi (HP), Jun 22 (PTI) A family dispute turned fatal in Himachal’s Mandi district, where a heavily intoxicated man allegedly killed his mother and seriously injured his father, police said on Monday.

The incident took place late Sunday night in Gehri (Jai Devi) village, under the Sundernagar subdivision.

According to the police, an argument broke out between 62-year-old Fagnu Ram and his 40-year-old son, Khema Ram, after the two consumed alcohol together.

As the altercation escalated, Khema Ram allegedly attacked his father with a wooden stick. When his 55-year-old mother, Parvati Devi allias Maghi Devi, tried to intervene, the accused allegedly struck her on the head.

She died on the spot while Fagnu Ram sustained critical injuries.

Police said the deceased was employed at the Himachal Pradesh Secretariat in Shimla, while the accused is also a government employee.

A team of the BSL Colony police station rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident around 11 pm and shifted the injured man to the Civil Hospital in Sundernagar for treatment.

A case has been registered under sections 103 and 115(2) of the BNS and the accused has been arrested, police said. PTI COR BPL MDO MDO
