Jammu, Aug 6 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested an alleged habitual drug peddler from Kathua district on Thursday under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act, officials said.

Police took Parshotam Kumar, a resident of Dhalli village in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district, into preventive custody after executing a detention warrant issued by the divisional commissioner, Jammu, under the PIT-NDPS Act, they said.

According to police, Kumar is a repeat offender allegedly involved in possessing and transporting narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and he is facing two cases under the NDPS Act.

Officials said the accused has been lodged in the district jail, Udhampur, to prevent him from allegedly engaging in further drug trafficking activities.

Police said the action is part of the ongoing drive against narcotics in Kathua district, adding that residents have welcomed the anti-drug initiative. PTI AB ASD ASD
