Chandigarh, Ag 19 (PTI) The Punjab Police on Wednesday said it has dismantled three major drug and illegal arms supply networks with the arrest of nine persons and recovered over 8 kg heroin and Rs 12.95 lakh cash.

Amritsar police recovered eight illegal pistols from the possession of the accused, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

Those arrested have been identified as Darshan Singh alias Channa (25), a native of village Raniyan in Amritsar; Satnam Singh (46), a resident of village Manjh in Amritsar; Mahabir Singh (34), a resident of village Rajoke in Tarn Taran; Lovepreet Singh alias Phula alias Love (24), a resident of Kartar Nagar in Amritsar; Harman Singh alias Hamma (23) and Narinder Singh alias Roba (26), both residents of Kale Ghanupur in Amritsar; Karan Singh alias Karan (22), a resident of village Bhikhiwind in Tarn Taran; Gurjant Singh alias Ghudha (24) and Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi (21), both residents of Bhalla Colony in Amritsar.

Police investigation revealed that the accused in the arms and drug cases were allegedly in contact with foreign-based handlers, receiving illegal arms and heroin consignments and supplying them to other criminal elements.

Further investigation is underway to establish the complete forward and backward linkages in this case to identify other persons involved, and dismantle the wider drug trafficking and illegal arms supply networks, he said.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Harmanbir Singh Gill said that acting on specific information, the police arrested Darshan alias Channa and Satnam Singh and recovered two illegal pistols from their possession.

Based on the disclosures made by the arrested accused, their two associates, Mahabir Singh and Lovepreet alias Love, were also arrested and four illegal pistols were recovered from their possession, he said.

All four arrested accused have previous criminal cases registered against them, including cases under the NDPS Act involving commercial quantities of heroin, the Arms Act and theft-related offences.

In the second operation, he said, acting swiftly on credible information, the police team apprehended Harman alias Hamma, Narinder alias Roba and Karan, and recovered 3.5 kg, one pistol along with four live cartridges, Rs 12.10 lakh cash from their possession.

Apart from recovering contraband, police teams have also impounded their motorcycle being used in criminal activities, he said.

Singh said in another major operation, police teams arrested Gurjant alias Ghudha and Gurpreet Singh, and recovered 5.01 kg heroin, one pistol and Rs 85,000 cash from their possession.

Both the arrested accused are brothers and were allegedly involved in the illegal trafficking of heroin, he added. PTI CHS KSS KSS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
