Nashik, Oct 26 (PTI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday said the decisions taken by the government to provide immediate relief to drought-hit farmers should be implemented effectively and in a time-bound manner.
Speaking at a review meeting in Nashik, Shinde said the administration should remain vigilant by prioritising drinking water, fodder for animals, water supply through tankers, employment guarantee works and financial assistance to farmers.
“Planning should be done to ensure sufficient drinking water and fodder for animals by August 2027,” he added.
He reiterated that the government stands firmly with farmers during the drought crisis.
“Keeping in mind the possible water shortage in the coming period, drinking water should be given top priority. Village-wise water availability, tanker requirement, fodder for animals and employment guarantee works should be reviewed and necessary measures should be planned.
“Water supply and drought relief measures should be planned keeping in mind the possible need till August 2027,” Shinde said.
He directed officials to conduct crop damage assessment, verification of farmers’ applications and distribution of financial assistance transparently and expeditiously.
“In the event of drought, farmers should not be put under unnecessary pressure to recover their loans. Nationalised banks, cooperative banks and microfinance institutions should follow the government’s instructions.
“They should understand the problems of farmers and act sensitively. The administration should take special care to ensure that farmers do not get discouraged due to the crisis and get the necessary support and assistance,” Shinde said, adding that problems of farmers should be understood and their issues should be resolved immediately.
He said students from drought-affected areas should get the benefit of the concessions announced by the government in educational fees or other matters.
Shinde said all the concerned departments should work in coordination in view of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 and make a detailed plan for the flag hoisting ceremony.
Earlier in the day, Shinde attended a gathering of seers at Trimbakeshwar. PTI COR NSK
