Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Apr 18 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday targeted Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK by alleging that its policy is “by the family, for the family,” and claimed that a competition was on within the family to loot.
Addressing an election rally of the NDA here, Modi said that over the past five years, two things have increased to record levels in Tamil Nadu and the first is one family’s wealth and the second is Tamil Nadu’s debt.
The DMK’s top family is becoming richer and richer while the debt on each person in TN is increasing more and more.
The DMK’s policy is “by the family, of the family, and for the family.” The chief minister, deputy CM and a prominent MP in Delhi all belong to the same family. Even the film industry, media houses, and so on are controlled by one family. Even senior leaders of DMK have to bend before juniors of a family.
“Whenever I meet people from TN, they tell me that there is a big competition in the family here. The competition is between the son and the son-in-law. They are competing on who will loot more,” he alleged.
Tamil Nadu needs vision in governnace, not son or son-in-law loot. On a connected note, he said the DMK and its ally in Delhi have one thing in common. In both, the son-in-law has done “wonders.” And India is fed up with one son-in-law and TN is fed up with another son-in-law and people are concerned about the corruption of these two families.
Look at the contrast between the BJP and the NDA. C P Radhakrishnan from Coimbatore region had no political background and he grew through honesty and hard work. When Radhakrishnan was in the coir board, he took exports to record levels and today, he serves as our Vice President.
Underscoring that Tamil Nadu is an important growth engine, PM Modi underlined the Centre’s contribution to Tamil Nadu’s growth.
“In the last eleven years, the Centre has provided more than Rs 14 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu through tax devolution, infrastructure (including highways, airport and railways) and welfare schemes,” he said.
This devolution was muliple fold higher than what was provided during the Congress-DMK regime at the Centre, he added. PTI SA VGN VGN KH
