New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI) Delhi Traffic Police detected 3,079 vehicles using unauthorised tinted or black films on their glasses during a special enforcement drive conducted across the city over two weeks, an official said on Monday.

The drive was conducted from September 21 to October 4 to ensure compliance with prescribed visibility standards for vehicle glasses and promote road safety and security, police said.

The Northern Range recorded the highest number of violations at 1,256, followed by the New Delhi Range with 793, Western Range with 338, Southern Range with 298, Eastern Range with 202 and Central Range with 192 violations, according to Delhi Traffic Police.

Police said the use of excessively dark or unauthorised films can adversely affect visibility, particularly at night and during adverse weather and other low-light conditions.

Reduced visibility through the side and rear glasses may hamper a driver’s ability to observe surrounding traffic, pedestrians, cyclists and other hazards, thereby increasing the risk of road accidents, they said.

Traffic Police said some vehicle owners install aftermarket films or other materials on vehicle glasses for privacy, protection from sunlight or aesthetic reasons.

The enforcement drive will continue and action will be taken against vehicles found violating the prescribed norms, police said. PTI SSJ

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
