New Delhi, Sep 1 (PTI) Delhi on Tuesday witnessed light to moderate monsoon showers lashing several parts of the city in the evening, as well as above-normal temperatures, with the two combined leading to increased humidity.
Rainfall was reported from various areas in central Delhi and other districts, mainly around ITO, Laxmi Nagar and adjoining areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in many parts of the city till September 4, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places.
The maximum temperature at Safdarjung, the city’s primary weather station, settled at 36 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees above normal.
Palam recorded a maximum of 34 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees below normal, while Lodi Road recorded 35 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees above normal. Ridge recorded 35.5 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above normal, and Ayanagar recorded 34.5 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degrees below normal.
Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather said light to moderate rain is likely in isolated patches over the next three days.
“Till today afternoon, there were westerly winds which were leading to an increase in temperatures. But now, humid weather from the Bay of Bengal is going to come in, because of which there will be increased humidity and cloud cover,” Palawat said.
“Tomorrow, we can see cloudy skies and in the late afternoon and evening hours, till the day after tomorrow, we can see light rain in isolated areas. Rain can be expected in the national capital for the next three days,” he added.
The minimum temperature at Safdarjung settled at 27.8 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees above normal. Palam recorded 24.8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees below normal, while Lodi Road recorded 27 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees above normal.
Ridge recorded 23.7 degrees Celsius, 1.9 degrees below normal, and Ayanagar 26.7 degrees Celsius, 0.7 degrees above normal.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality index settled at 113, in the moderate category, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said.
According to the CPCB, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe. PTI SGV PRK
