New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Unidentified assailants fatally shot a property dealer outside a gymnasium in outer-north Delhi’s Narela on Thursday morning, with police suspecting a possible gang rivalry behind the killing, an official said.
The deceased has been identified as Pramod Dahiya, a resident of Haryana’s Sonipat, he said.
According to the police, the incident took place around 7 am when the attackers opened fire at Dahiya and fled the spot. Police teams are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailants and ascertain the sequence of events.
Police, in a statement, said they received a PCR call about the incident at 7.15 am. “One person, Pramod (42), was found dead due to multiple bullet injuries. 15 empty cartridges were also found at the spot,” read the statement.
The deceased’s brother, Pawan Kumar, who is an eyewitness, said that around 6:50 am, he and Pramod had come near The Gym, when two unknown persons fired at them. Both assailants fled the spot along with one other co-accused on a motorcycle.
“An FIR has been registered at Narela Police Station against unknown accused. The body has been sent for postmortem. CCTV footage is being analysed, and four teams of Special Staff and local police have been formed to work on local intelligence and CCTV cameras. Efforts are on to identify the accused and their role for further action. All possible efforts are being made to trace the alleged accused people,” it further read.
Police sources said they are exploring the possibility of gang rivalry or extortion calls behind the killing.
A relative of Dahiya said the incident took place around 6.45 am when he had gone to the gym, adding that he was a regular there.
“He was regular to the gym. I got a call from some of my known that Pramod has been shot and is seriously injured. I immediately reached the spot. I got to know that the assailants came on a scooter, opened around 15 rounds of fire and killed him,” the relative said.
The relative said Dahiya was a property dealer and had never fought with anyone.
“We are four brothers and one sister. Pramod was a property dealer, and he had never fought with anyone,” he said.
The relative also alleged that despite the police station being located around 300 metres from the place where Dahiya was shot, the cops reached nearly two hours after the incident.
The relative demanded justice for the family and called for strict action against those responsible for the killing, including an encounter of the accused.
“When UP can do it, why not Delhi Police? We lost our brother and justice will only prevail when the police will kill the murderers,” he said.
“Nabbing the accused will not bring justice to the family. We want justice. What they did to my brother, they must meet the same fate,” Dahiya’s brother said.
